How to get to Maspalomas ?

The island’s airport is located on the East coast approximately, 20 km from Maspalomas. There are both buses and taxis from the airport to Maspalomas.

Air Transportation

The Canary Islands are the southernmost point of Europe. As one of the main European vacation destination, there are a lot of direct flights that directly connect Gran Canaria to continental Europe and Africa.

The closest airport to the gay action is called Las Palmas Gran Canaria Airport (LPA).

We recommend you book your flight with our partner and official airline from Spain Iberia.

Gran Canaria is also directly connected to mainland Spain: Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Sevilla, Valencia, Alicante, Bilbao, Santiago de Compostela, Santiago Rosalia de Castro, Zaragoza, Pamplona, Vigo and Asturias.

From America and the rest of the planet

Everyone in America, whether North or South and elsewhere on the planet, you’ll have to flight to any of the many cities above then change to Gran Canaria Airport. There is at the moment no direct flight but that could change.

Administrative

If you are a citizen of the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein you only need to show a national ID card or passport.

Citizens of the United States with a valid US passport can come for a maximum of 90 days without having to apply or obtain a Schengen visa for short-term tourism or a business trip.

EU citizens can also get a job here without much hassle. (Mainly in tourism, food and entertainment industries)

Border check

Gran Canaria is part of the European Union, if you travel to the island from a EU country you should not have to pass any kind of control on arrival at the airport.

Passengers arriving from any country not belonging to the Schengen area, such as Great Britain, Ireland and the United States must go through a passport control on arrival at the Gran Canaria airport.

From the Airport

There is at least one bus per hour for less than €5 each way. (The buses are nice)

A taxi will cost around €30-40.

Getting Around Maspalomas

These are the two main sides of Maspalomas you need to know about.

A) Playa del Ingles which forms a V-shape on the East side (the right side in pink of the map above). This is where Yumbo is.

B) Meloneras at the South-West of the V-shape. This is where are the 5-star luxury resorts… and the gay beach.

You’ll do a mix of walking and taxis between those areas.

Or rent a car to enjoy your stay in Gran Canaria to the fullest. Thankfully taxi’s are very cheap and you can pay them contactless with your phone.

Visiting Gran Canaria Island

To visit the other parts of the island, you could take the bus (all infos here).

Or better yet, again, rent a car, you will see many rent-a-car businesses in the streets. We recommend Cicar.

Bringing your own car to Gran Canaria Island

Have a car and want to bring it to the island? It is possible from the South of mainland Spain. Either from the cities of Cadiz or La Huelva. The ferry companies operating those lines are Armas and Fred Olsen (click on their names to reach their site).

The trip is over 30 hours, we highly recommend that you book a cabin, it is totally worth it, as you will be much more comfortable than just in a normal seat. Cabins have beds, plugs, wifi, personal shower, toilet and optionally a window to the sea. And bonus all cabins reservation include all the meals during the journey.

Note that if you are a resident of the Canary Islands, you have a 75% discounts on the price.
