Today, on April 23th 2024, the city of Maspalomas held a press conference to give details about the Maspalomas Pride 2024.

According to them, the next edition of ‘Maspalomas Pride by Freedom’, which will be held from May 2 to May 12 (many events will still be happening on May 13th), “will become a more sustainable, safe, and supportive event”. Indeed after receiving many complaints that last year was only circuit deejays, it has been promised that this year would have a more varied program. It has been prepared with about 40 musical, cultural, and sports events, including the largest parade of floats featuring 38 vehicles.

Most of the events and shows will be free. The main stage will be broadcasted live each night via streaming on YouTube and Instagram until 3:00 AM. The main stage at Yumbo will be larger and two giant screens will be installed in the middle of the square to watch the galas live.

Antonio Morales, president of the Gran Canaria Council, stated that Maspalomas has been recognized internationally in the LGBTQ+ sector for decades and is a reality that recognizes Diversity as a concept that groups of people with different sexual orientations and gender identities exist. This event, he said, represents economic development for the Island and for the municipality.

Yilenia Vega, Council of Tourism, noted that this event is one of the most crowded and has the greatest tourist impact in the municipality. She highlighted the effort of the organization to prepare a program that offers cultural, sports, “claimative”, and fun parts, the main ingredient of this festival, which also translates to its economic impact. “This is an event that moves more than hundreds of thousands of people who come from outside the island to enjoy each night and that impacts the economy of the municipality and benefits entrepreneurs, workers, the lodging facilities, the restaurant industry, and transportation. It is estimated that the economic benefit this year could be around 150 million euros.”

Carlos Álamo, tourism councilor of the Gran Canaria Council, referred to Maspalomas Pride as an event that moves a very important group for Gran Canaria and noted that the vast majority “rate it highly and 50% express that they would return to the Island to enjoy their vacation time.”

Freedom Asociacion, the company currently in charge of the main stage reminded what we’ve been saying that “Maspalomas is a top destination in Europe, considered a paradise for the LGBTQ+ community”. Among the program’s new features, he highlighted the return of the fun Heels Race, a foam party in a giant pool measuring 5 by 10 meters, a Talent contest with a 1,500 euros prize for the winner, the Drag Queen contest with eight participants, and the Solidarity Gala.

The organization hopes to surpass the figure of 300,000 people who will enjoy this festival considered ‘the best pride in Europe and the world’.
