Gay Resorts with Swimming Pool Allowing Day Guests, in Maspalomas

Gran Canaria specializes in gay resorts. Pool parties happen there during the several prides Maspalomas hosts. But even when there are no organized parties, they remain very nice spots to hang out at during the day, every day, and this… all year long (due to Gran Canaria summer forever micro-climate).

Several of them allow non-guests to access their Pool & Bar area during the day. Many gay locals spend their time there. It is also pretty convenient if you don´t feel like going all the way to the beach or that you simply did not luck out with your reservation and had to book in a non-gay resort. (Indeed those sell out pretty quickly if you don´t reserve in advance. Supply and demand makes them more expensive). Click here for the full list.

Most Gay Resorts of Maspalomas are clothing optional and located in Playa del Ingles, which is the neighborhood where Yumbo is.

Now let´s tell you which ones are accessible to non-guests during the day (for a fee of course, between 10  and 15 depending on where and when, and ¨when¨ is key because if there is a pool party with a deejay than it´s more expensive. Most include one drink with the cover charge except for Basement. More on that below.

In no particular order:

1. Basement Studios

Basement Studios is ¨Men Only¨ and of course just like the rest of the gay resorts, ¨adult only¨. Conveniently located right across Yumbo, it has a cute little pool and a fairly sized cruising area. The crowd´s age range from around their 30s to 50s. It is clothing optional and a great percentage of the guys are actually nude, with many wearing fetish gear, such as cockrings.

On Sundays there is a BBQ included in the price but you gotta be there early to not miss it. The bar has some specials. We wish at least a drink would be included in the entry price but it´s not the case. Well if you go on Sunday then the BBQ makes up for it.

For us, we always had a good time at Basement.

2. Axel Beach Hotel

YouTube player

Axel Hotel, the ultra famous chain of gay hotels is of course in Gran Canaria. It used to have a slogan ¨hetero friendly¨ which confused many people into thinking it was not a gay hotel, and we are happy they are phasing that out, because it is Gay… but not men only. Lesbians are welcome… but…you won´t really see them.

Anyway, the Axel hotel in Maspalomas has a nice swimming pool, a jacuzzi, and steam rooms where it can get freaky. There is however no cruising area. But if you like a guy and he is a hotel guest, you can just go to his room. (That goes for every places mentioned in this article by the way).

It has a full bar to boost up your social skills. You can chill there and meet guys from 11am to 7pm.

Crowd is on the younger side from 18 to 40s. It plays music as a background noise. There are several pool parties organized over the year where the music is at clubbing level. Keep in mind, it is not clothing optional.

For the Axel, it´s better to reserve your spot in advance by clicking here. (that includes your pool chair, one drink, a towel, access to all amenities mentioned above and wifi).

3. Tropical La Zona

Tropical La Zona is quite nice too. It is similar to Basement Studios but a little more spacious. It has a cruising area and is clothing optional.

It has a full bar and you have one drink included with the cover charge. They are playing some music.

However, we´re not too found of the jacuzzi which is tiny and does not feel integrated with the rest.

Most guys there are between 30s to 50s.

4. Hotel Ritual

The Hotel Ritual´s pool area has a good vibe and is located right next to Yumbo behind the club Mantrix. Hotel Ritual blasts music super loud which is great for people like us who love that, but if you are looking for calm, check the other gay resorts.

There aren´t enough pool chairs next to the pool so you might not find a spot. There is a nudist section on the other side but without a pool there so it is quite empty there. They need to rethink the layout.

There is a fake jacuzzi. It looks like a jacuzzi but it´s not, the water is cold and there is no bubbles, but it remains a socializing spot since you get closer to each other.

Just like all the other gay resorts there is of course a bar.

The Ritual is popular with the locals. Like for Axel the crowd is from 18+ to 40s.

5. Los Almendros

So outside of Prides and the pool parties which bring their own kind of crowds, Los Almendros feels to be more for older men. Most men there are over 40 years old, 50s and 60s even. It is clothing optional.

There is a fairly sized pool. The jacuzzi is nice but you have to keep pressing the button every 3 minutes or so to keep the bubbles coming.

There is of course a full bar. There is no cover charge but you have to buy at least one drink.

You can hear music playing in the background from the bar.

Feel free to try them all and then decide which one is better for you.
